Engine Specifications
The MerCruiser 5.0-liter engine weighs 952 pounds and is 22 inches tall. It is 32 inches long and 30 inches wide. The V8 engine gets 260 horsepower, displacement of 305 cubic inches, normal aspiration, generates 4,600 to 5,000 revolutions per minute, has a bore of 3.73 inches and a 3.48-inch stroke. Fuel and Ignition System
The MerCruiser 5.0-liter engine uses 87 Octane fuel in its multi-point, electronic fuel-injection system. The ignition system uses a crank-fired, high-voltage switch with knock control. The cooling system is a thermostatically-controlled, raw-water system. The engine also has an iron-manifold exhaust system.
Special Features
The MerCruiser 5.0-liter includes a dry-joint exhaust system. This eliminates the chance of water leaking into the engine, and increases resistance to corrosion, according to Mercury Marine. The fuel filter separates water to prevent it from entering the fuel system. This engine also offers an exclusive alarm system, as notification of low oil pressure, high water temperature or excessive temperature in the transmission. A drive-lube monitor is affixed to the top of the engine, for quick accessibility.
